Frequently Asked Questions
Clear, honest answers about telehealth psychiatry, medication, payment, and what to expect — so you can feel confident before your first session.
Booking & Your First Visit
What happens during a first psychiatric appointment?
Your initial evaluation is 60–75 minutes — a comprehensive psychiatric assessment where Chidimma reviews your personal and family mental health history, current symptoms, medications, and goals. Together, you will build an initial care plan tailored to you.
How quickly can I get an appointment?
New patient slots are typically available within 1–2 weeks. We offer 3–4 telehealth days per week and 1–2 in-person days in McKinney. Book online to see real-time availability.
What should I bring or prepare for my first session?
No paperwork needed — everything is done digitally. It helps to have a list of any current medications (name, dose, frequency), a summary of your mental health history, and any prior diagnoses or provider records if available.
How long are follow-up appointments?
Follow-up visits for established patients are 20–30 minutes and focus on medication monitoring, progress review, side effect management, and care plan updates.
Telehealth Psychiatry
Is telehealth psychiatry as effective as in-person?
Yes. Research consistently shows that telehealth psychiatric care achieves comparable outcomes to in-person treatment for most conditions. It also eliminates commute time, reduces anxiety around clinical settings, and makes care accessible to patients across all of Texas.
Do I need special equipment for telehealth?
No specialized equipment required — just a smartphone, tablet, or computer with a working camera and microphone, a stable internet connection, and a private, quiet space.
What if I lose internet connection mid-session?
If you lose connection, your provider will attempt to reconnect via the video platform. If the connection cannot be restored, Chidimma will follow up by phone within 15 minutes.
Is telehealth available statewide across Texas?
Yes. You can be located anywhere in Texas during your telehealth session. You must physically be within Texas state borders for the appointment to comply with Texas Medical Board regulations.
Why do I have to sign a telehealth consent form?
Texas state law (Texas Medical Board rules) requires all providers to obtain documented informed consent before conducting a telehealth session. Your consent is securely logged with a timestamp and is stored as a compliance record.
Medication & Treatment
Will I definitely be prescribed medication?
Not necessarily. Medication is one tool — but it is always a collaborative decision. Chidimma presents all options with a clear explanation of benefits, risks, and alternatives. You are always an active participant in your care plan.
Can I continue with medications my previous provider prescribed?
In most cases, yes. Chidimma will review your current medication regimen during the evaluation and discuss any changes, continuations, or optimizations that would best serve your care goals.
How are medication adjustments handled between appointments?
Minor medication questions or refill requests for established patients may be handled via message or a brief phone follow-up during designated admin hours. Significant changes require a follow-up appointment.
Payment & Insurance
What payment methods do you accept?
MayRock accepts Zelle, Venmo, and major credit/debit cards. Fees are transparent and self-pay. We do not bill insurance directly but provide detailed superbills for reimbursement.
What is a superbill and how do I use it?
A superbill is an itemized official statement containing your provider's NPI, diagnosis codes (ICD-10), and CPT service codes. You submit it directly to your insurance company to claim out-of-network reimbursement. Many PPO and some HMO plans reimburse a percentage of mental health out-of-network costs.
When will I receive my superbill?
Superbills are generated after your appointment is marked complete and your session fee has been verified as paid. You will receive the PDF directly by email and can also access it from your booking confirmation.
Does MayRock accept insurance directly?
MayRock currently operates as a self-pay, out-of-network provider. We provide all necessary documentation (superbills) for you to seek reimbursement from your insurer independently.
Crisis & Emergency Safety
Is MayRock Family Psychiatry a crisis or emergency service?
No. MayRock is an outpatient psychiatric practice and does not provide emergency intervention. If you or someone you know is experiencing a mental health emergency or having thoughts of self-harm, please immediately call 911 or contact the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline by calling or texting 988 (available 24/7, free, confidential).
What should I do if I feel unsafe between appointments?
Go to your nearest emergency room, call 911, or call/text 988. MayRock does not have 24/7 on-call crisis support. Your safety is the priority — emergency services are the appropriate resource in a crisis.
